Or, grab a table at one of the authentic Bahamian restaurants to get a taste of real island culture.  How will you get there? Check out the following information and choose the option that suits you best.

Buses

Taking the public bus is a fantastic way to see the sights and mingle with local Bahamians. Local transportation operates from 7am until sunset. Bus fare is $1.50 in the Freeport/Lucaya area and $2.00 in the West and East End areas. Grand Bahama’s public transportation is also a great way to get to Port Lucaya Marketplace with no fuss or worries.

Scooters & Motorized Vehicles

Are you looking for a perfect spot to enjoy a sunset or yearning to get away from the island excitement for a moment of solitude? Renting a motorized scooter is an ideal transportation alternative that will get you to your destination while you enjoy the island coastline. Grand Bahama also has various car rental agencies that are located at the airport. Important: On Grand Bahama Island, all motorized vehicles drive on the left side of the road.

Taxis

The taxis on Grand Bahama Island are typically found at hotels, airports, Port Lucaya Marketplace, and other tourist areas.

Bicycles

Most bike rental shops are located on-site at hotels and resorts, and some are scattered around the island. With a bike, you’ll be able to journey through the 5-mile Heritage Trail and other off-road locations. Get a chance to cycle to the island’s main shopping district, Port Lucaya Marketplace, while soaking in the sun. Important: Keep in mind, cyclists follow the same rule as motorized vehicles; please remember to drive on the left side of the road.
